Our Community Garden is open 10am – 4pm weekdays through the summer months to the Community. Come in, sit and relax in our communal area or bring a friend and have a relax drink in the sunshine.
In 2017 Tassibee decided it need to refresh it Community Garden and front area. Both areas had become overgrown, drab and run down. We started looking for funding to help develop these areas. In May, we were successfully awarded the Greggs Foundation Environment Grant. We are using this grant to develop a vegetable patch and make an attractive Community Garden for wildlife and local community.
In June, we were notified we had been successful in gaining funding from RotherFed – Summer Environment Garden Fund. In July, we started working a fantastic team of volunteers through the National Citizen Service Programme run through Rotherham United Community Sports Trust. 15 volunteers ranging from 16 – 18 years old, who took responsibility to design the garden, budget and purchase the resources and off course complete the hard work. They did a fantastic job to transform the gardens, as you can see from the photos.
We have been so impressed with their commitment, hard work and dedication to the project, even though we have had some horrible weather this week. It was a great example of charities working together and achieving great things.
We hosted an open session tomorrow to show of the Community Garden and an opportunity to local members to come and talk to the young people who have been helping. We provide a home cooked lunch and held an award ceremony to say thank you for all their hard work.
“This has rounded off a great time on the NCS programme. It has been hard work but fun, it has been good to focus on something that makes a difference to the community. I love that we have been able to see the project from the start to the finish. I am so proud of what we have achieved” -Jade one of the volunteers
